South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) and Economics Study Center (ESC) collaborated to arrange a seminar titled “Youth’s Perception on Renewable Energy” on 24 July 2023 at Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium, University of Dhaka. The event aimed to address the growing energy crisis in the country, find the reasons and explore sustainable solutions offered by renewable energy sources.
South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) is working on Bangladesh’s just energy transition towards green and clean energy. Since September 2022, SANEM, in collaboration with TARA Climate Ltd., has been implementing several research projects, aimed at reducing dependency on fossil fuels for power generation and increasing the use of renewable energy sources like solar and wind. The primary goal of these projects is to inform policymakers and relevant stakeholders about the risks and uncertainties associated with fossil fuel-based power generation, thereby influencing policies, plans, and actions towards green and clean energy-based power generation in Bangladesh. The projects aim to guide policymakers and stakeholders towards alternative pathways, such as renewable energy.
To achieve the goals of these projects, SANEM is conducting in-depth research on the power and energy sector and engaging in policy advocacy. This effort includes producing research reports, journal articles, policy briefs, op-eds, blogs, the quarterly Energy Bulletin, and magazine publications. SANEM also focuses on nurturing young researchers and enhancing their capacity in evidence-based research and policy-making processes in the energy sector. Moreover, SANEM organises national-level dialogues, workshops, seminars, and webinars as well as media briefings. It also hosts a dedicated paper presentation session on energy security at its Annual Economist’s Conference, held each February. SANEM further utilises social media outreach, sharing research and activities on its dedicated Facebook page, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
Throughout these projects, SANEM will collaborate with policymakers, government authorities in the power and energy sector, think tanks, the private sector, development partners, civil society organisations, academia, and experts. This collaboration will involve sharing research findings and incorporating valuable feedback into SANEM’s advocacy strategy. By considering insights and nuanced opinions from these partners, SANEM aims to strengthen its research framework and provide evidence-based policy recommendations to policymakers. This collaborative effort is crucial for fostering a more sustainable and secure energy future for Bangladesh.
